Community Action Disaster Case Management Grant

altDECATUR, ALA. – The Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives (GFBCI) has chosen the Community Action Partnership to execute a $2.44 million grant to provide case management services to families affected by the devastating storms of April 27, 2011.

Community Action Awarded NeighborWorks® Membership

DECATUR, ALA. - 12/1/2011 - The Community Action Partnership announces announces its membership in the national NeighborWorks® network at an Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony at Harbor Pointe II apartments. NeighborWorks® America will also present the Partnership with a grant of $182,000.

Community Action Receives Energy Relief Funds

DECATUR, ALA. - 9/14/2011 - The Community Action Partnership announced that it has received an additional $175,000 to support income eligible families in Morgan, Cullman and Lawrence Counties. Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) funds have already assisted 2,755 families this summer. This assistance eliminates energy cut offs and is a third party transaction with the utility that enables a family or individual to maintain electric energy for cooling and general household use.

A month ago Saturday, 3-year-old Tex Hanners’ wet and seemingly lifeless body lay on the warm concrete at his mother’s Decatur home.

Autumn Hanners pressed her hands into her son’s chest and blew air into his unconscious body.

Local pilot who lived simply leaves $100,000 to Meals on Wheels

Many called him eccentric - the man with the worn-out suit and shoes with taped soles who tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk and carried around groundhogs.

This man, who lived simply, bequeathed more than $160,000 to local organizations in his death.
